LGBTIQ+ Victorians

Everyone in the LGBTIQ+ community in Victoria should be able to play basketball in a safe and welcoming place. They should feel valued and heard.
Wyndham Basketball Association has promised to welcome all players, workers, and volunteers, no matter their sexuality or gender identity.

Why LGBTIQ+ Inclusion Matters

The LGBTIQ+ community includes people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and Queer/Questioning. They make up about 11% of Australia’s population. However, many LGBTIQ+ people don’t take part in sports or physical activities. This is often because they’ve had bad experiences, like discrimination or harassment. When sports aren’t inclusive, LGBTIQ+ people miss out on the benefits of being active. These benefits include better physical and mental health, and social connections. Sports can offer more memberships and improve people’s lives.
